HISTORY 2055-2077

The United Mexican States rapidly rose to power in the 2030’s as it benefited from a robust population, a special economic relation with the United States of America, and its unique geographic position between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Mexico for nearly two hundred years before the Third War was a backwater nation plagued by corruption and lawlessness. This slowly changed as the Mexican military with the help of the United States retook the streets from the numerous elements of destabilization. Under this security blanket the Mexican economy and democracy flourished and by the end of the 2030’s it had become a budding economic and military global power. All throughout the 2040’s, Mexico rapidly modernized its military with the help of the People's Republic of China. Which had begun to take a huge interest in the new regional power. As the economical and military relationship between the two nations (Mexico and China) increased the relations between Mexico and the United States greatly soured.

By 2050 Mexico began flexing its military muscle and extremists within the Mexican military began to call for the United States to reevaluate its claim to the Southwestern United States. Relations simmered to the brink of war for nearly five years. Occasionally the two nations armed forces would engage in border skirmishes, but the Third War broke out in 2055 and the United States shifted its attention to China. Mexican radicals took the opportunity to attack across the borders and in one instance seized a small border town, this greatly antagonized the United States. The United States was in no position to deal with the situation as most of its forces were committed fighting the Chinese Hegemony across numerous fronts around the world so it entered into peace talks with Mexico in the American city of El Paso in 2056 over the disputed territories. A ceasefire was put into place and the question of Mexico's “lost” territories would be decided after the US war with China was over. This decision came after millions of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans pleaded to their respective governments to curb the violence and settle the matter peacefully.

Between the years of 2055 and 2060 the United Mexican States remained neutral and refused numerous advances by the Chinese to enter the war on its side. Historians credit this to the US-UMS peace talks and to the fact that the United States had at the time many Americans of Mexican heritage. China unable to persuade Mexico to join its war against the United States went ahead with its nuclear strike and invasion of the United States. Of special note is that the original Chinese plans for the invasion of North America called for a nuclear strike on major US/Canadian cities and bases in the north of the continent as to avoid nuclear fallout hitting Mexican territory. This would be followed by a combined Chinese-Mexican assault from the West and South respectively. The Chinese went ahead with a new invasion plan and the nuclear fallout from the Chinese strikes on the United States killed tens of millions of Mexicans. At this point the Chinese surmised, correctly, that the United Mexican States would side with the United States and went with a scorched earth strategy. The United Mexican States immediately declared war on the Peoples Republic of China and mobilized. The sizable Mexican Army entered the war and at the request of the United States aided in delaying and eventually stopping the Chinese invasion along the Mississippi River and Monterrey. This gave the United States precious time to fully mobilize. The Free Mexican Navy and Army also played a vital role in the South American and Pacific theaters of the Third War. Mexico accounted for more then half of the Allied forces in South America.

By 2067 the very last Mexican president was assassinated by what at the time looked like Hegemony agents, but in actuality were American agents under the command of General De-Tierra. General Santos with the backing of the U.S. seized control of the Mexican government and pushed it further into American control. In 2068 the United States of America and the United Mexican States armed forces merged under the command of US General De-Tierra. The Mexican military would from this point on closely follow and support the American military in all of its campaigns. From the liberation of Europe to the apocalyptic invasion of the Chinese mainland. The United Mexican States ceased to exist in 2078 when the major Allied nations formed the Unites States Earth Authority after China capitulated in 2077.
