HISTORY 2055-2077

The Japanese people which made up the State of Japan has had a long and complicated history with the people of China. Japan went from periods of outright aggression against the Chinese to long periods of isolation from the outside world including China. Since the beginning of recorded history in Asia these two nations have been bitter enemies and rivals; both competing for influence, resources, and territory within Far East Asia. This bitter rivalry would lead to some of the greatest tragedies of both the Second and Third Human Civil Wars. The Second War would see the Japanese murder tens of millions of Chinese civilians in cold blood while decimating large areas of China. The Third War would see the Chinese commit mass genocide against the Japanese people as revenge for the Second War that occurred a hundred years ago in the past. The Third War would make the Japanese a people without a home and hunted to the point of near extinction by the Chinese Hegemony.

During the First Human Civil War (1914-1918) the Japanese joined the Allies against the Central Powers (Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, Etc.) and effortlessly seized Germany's colonies in the Pacific. The Empire of Japan with the help of their recently modernized military and industry would single-handedly defeat the Central Powers in the Pacific. Freeing up thousands of Allied soldiers from the British and French Empires to fight Germany in Europe. Once the war was over with an Allied victory the Japanese received little new territory from the Treaty of Versailles which ended the war. The Japanese felt cheated by the treaty and claimed that the other victorious Allied European powers were snatching up all of Germany's colonies in the Pacific for themselves. To add insult to injury the Five Power Treaty signed in 1922 between the USA, Italy, Japan, France and Britain to prevent a naval arms race severely limited Japan's naval ambitions. The Japanese were restricted in the number of battleships and total military vessels it could build compared to the United States and Great Britain. The Japanese felt snubbed by the West and decided to turn away from the West and prepared itself to take the land and resources it needed to become a world power by force. The Japanese formally backed out of the Five Power Treaty in 1936 and In 1937 the Japanese crossed into Manchuria from its colony in Korea starting the Second Human Civil War (1937-1945). The Japanese war machine easily overwhelmed a severely weakened China (Note: China was in the middle of a Civil War) and the Japanese slaughtered millions of Chinese in their drive to conquer China. The Japanese considered the Chinese to be subhuman and tortured or killed many of them (even holding contests on who could behead the most). The Japanese saw the USA and the other colonial powers as its enemy and joined the Axis Powers with Nazi Germany and the Italian Empire against the Allies. The Japanese Empire rapidly conquered a vast empire from what were once the Pacific colonies of America (Guam, Philippines), Netherlands (Dutch East Indies), France (French Indochina) and Great Britain (Burma, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc.). The Allies, in particular the United States and Britain would fight a long campaign against the Japanese Empire to retake the Pacific island by island. The Japanese resisted bitterly and caused monstrous casualties to the Allied forces in the Pacific. The closer the Allies came to Japan itself the more fanatical the Japanese were in defending their island strongholds. By mid 1945 the Japanese Empire was the last Axis power left standing and it was surrounded by the Allies who were on the verge of invading. Instead of invading the Japanese mainland the United States dropped two atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The war ended soon after and the Japanese Empire surrendered. A defeated Japan submitted itself to being occupied by the United States of America. The US imposed a new constitution on the defeated Japanese Empire which prohibited its right to wage war, maintain an offensive military, established a parliamentary democracy and made the Emperor of Japan a ceremonial figurehead.

Japanese society radically changed and rapidly recovered during the American occupation (1945-1952). Since Japan was prohibited to maintain a real military and didn't fear any of its neighbors attacking it (Japan was protected under the United States security blanket). Japan was able to focus exclusively on its economy and become a global economic powerhouse. Eventually the United States collapsed economically during the Second Great Depression (2026-2038) and the Japanese were forced to fend for themselves. The Japanese by this time already had a significant defensive military, but to ensure its survival against a rising China it overturned the US imposed sanctions in its constitution (Treaty of Kyoto 2029) and began to rearm itself. This infuriated the Chinese who had not forgotten the horrible atrocities the Japanese committed against its people during the Second Human Civil War, but Japan was no longer the expansionist racial centric empire it once had been a hundred years before. China ignored the Japanese attempts to reconcile and instead the Chinese government instigated anti-Japanese hatred within China. The Chinese began to use its new economic clout, control of the seas, and its stranglehold on precious metals to push Japan out of many global markets. Japan took a huge financial hit due to these efforts by China but instead of being ruined the Japanese continued to thrive because of its colonies beyond Earth. The Japanese along with the United States and India had invested heavily in the establishment of dozens of colonies in the Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and other celestial bodies. These colonies provided a constant stream of raw materials, gold, precious metals, hydrogen-2, etc and helped push Japan out of the Second Great Depression.

By 2054 the People's Republic of China had become extremely aggressive against the Japanese, even going so far as shooting at their cargo ships along the Strait of Malacca. Japanese Prime Minister Akaki tried in vain to smooth relations with China by offering trillions in “reparations,” Japanese islands in the pacific, and underwater drilling rights along the coast of Japan. China flatly rejected the offers and Sino-Japanese relations continued to deteriorate. In mid 2055 the United States asked Japan to assist in protecting Taiwan from a possible Chinese invasion. The Americans attempted to defuse the situation by intimidating the Chinese by sending the entire US Pacific fleet to the Taiwanese Strait. Japan and numerous other nations sent a small token fleet to assist the US, but all of the Allied ships were destroyed when the Chinese went ahead and still invaded Taiwan. The US, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Australia immediately declared war on China and the Third Human Civil War (2055-2077) officially began.

The first two years of the war went by without much actual fighting between China and Japan aside from a few naval skirmishes. The Chinese Hegemony completely ignored the Japanese except for the occasional missile strikes and aerial bombardments on Japan. The Chinese Hegemony was busy fighting the Republic of India and the United States of Korea. Prime Minister Akaki refused to commit Japanese forces outside of Japan although Korea and the Philippines reluctantly asked for assistance to repel the Chinese invaders from their countries. Prime Minister Akaki tried in vain to enter into peace talks with China by refusing to fight against the Chinese. Akaki left office in 2056 an unpopular and broken man and was replaced by Prime Minister Maaka of the Japanese Communist Party. Maaka promised the Japanese people that he could bring peace with communist China as long as they changed to be accepted into China's new world order. Maaka issued new sweeping changes throughout Japan that included converting the Japanese capitalist economy into a communist economy by 2060. The change in economic systems caused untold havoc to Japan's manufacturing, industrial and agricultural sectors which led to a complete lack of food and finished products on the Japanese Islands. Maaka also demanded that the Americans abandon their military bases in Japan and in early 2057 the Americans pulled out of Japan. The Chinese entered into peace talks with Japan shortly after, but it was only a rouse to allow them sufficient time to prepare for the invasion of Japan. Maaka visited Beijing on July.20, 2057, and was greeted warmly by the Chinese for the peace talks. China promised Japan a place in the Hegemony and offered peace in return for Japan's subservience to the new order, control of Japan's colonies beyond Earth, and access to Japan's advanced technologies. Maaka returned to Japan with a peace treaty and on Nov.10, 2057 invited the Chinese to Tokyo to officially recognize Japan as a member of the Hegemony. On Nov.11, 2057 these Chinese Ambassadors were killed in a car bombing just outside of Japan's National Diet Building and a ultra-nationalist Japanese group* claimed responsibility for the attack. China declared war on Japan and Maaka begged for an audience with China to resolve the matter. China ignored the Japanese PM and told him simply, “There is nothing else you can offer us.” The Japanese by this point had already transferred its most advanced technologies and strategic colonies to China.

An invasion seemed imminent as millions of PLA soldiers and vehicles gathered in occupied Korea just across the Korean Strait. Prime Minister Maaka begged the People's Republic of China to reconsider, but they continued to ignore his pleas. The people of Japan panicked and rioted in the streets demanding that Maaka step down. Maaka refused to step down. He felt that being a fellow communist like the Chinese he was the man best suited to resolve the crisis, but unknown to him was that the Chinese leadership could care less that he was a communist. The complete destruction of Japan and all of its people was already planned by the Chinese Hegemony. The destruction of Japan would destroy a potential future rival and bring about justice (as the Chinese saw it) for the atrocities the Japanese committed during the Second Human Civil War. The people of China long raised to hate the Japanese demanded it. Another major Chinese goal for the invasion of Japan was to test the PLA's new tactics, weapons, amphibious assault vehicles and provide the PLA with valuable combat experience for the eventual invasion of the United States mainland. December.15, 2057 the People's Republic of China invaded Japan (Operation Eastern Devils) from the south near Nagasaki with a force of 2,000,000. The Japanese Self Defense Force ill prepared to face the Chinese war machine quickly gave ground and abandoned Kyushu. News of the invasion quickly spread throughout the rest of Japan along with rumors that the PLA was committing horrendous atrocities to anyone unlucky enough to fall into their hands. Maaka after hearing confirmation about the invasion from his generals committed suicide by jumping out of a highrise window. 126th Japanese Emperor Akishino in an emergency meeting appointed Mr. Ichikawa of the New Kōmeitō Party as the new Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Ichikawa rallied the JSDF defenders of Japan and sent them south to buy the Japanese people time to set up a proper defense. Prime Minister Ichikawa immediately implemented a draft and converted the vast network of Japanese factories to churn out weaponry to arm the draftees. The JSDF had only one real advantage over the PLA, its highly advanced robotic and unmanned weapon systems. The Chinese had gained these secrets from Maaka's ill fated peace treaty, but they had none built at the beginning of the invasion. These robotic warriors were extremely powerful and tore through the PLA wherever they were deployed, but Japan didn't have enough of them to fully repel the invaders. Complicating the defense of Japan was the CFR's entry into the invasion, in late January 2058 the Communist Federated Republics invaded Japan from the north in the island of Sapporo and opened a second front. The Japanese defenders were overwhelmed and the next few months saw the JSDF constantly giving ground to the invaders. Only stopping to fight when it needed to give Japanese civilians time to reach the last stronghold of Tokyo, Kanto. By June 2058 the PLA had conquered Chubu (the land west of Kanto) and were on the verge of assaulting Kanto, the last part of the Japanese mainland still under Japanese control. The situation in Japan seemed hopeless as eighty million surviving civilians crammed inside the city of Tokyo. Prime Minister Ichikawa initiated Operation Hukkatsu in an effort to save what was left of the Japanese people. Operation Hukkatsu was the mass evacuation of the Japanese people from Japan. The United States, Peru and Australia all offered them sanctuary and land to which they could resettle. As the PLA pushed into the outskirts of Tokyo the last remnants of the JSDF Navy along with a few Allied submarines opened up an escape route through Tokyo Bay from which the people of Japan could escape. The Hegemony tried to stop the evacuation in what would later become known as the Battle of the Sea Goddess by attacking Tokyo from both land and sea. The JSDF along with a hundred thousand civilian volunteers held back the Chinese Hegemony as thousands of ships evacuated Tokyo. The Hegemony attempted to disrupt the evacuation by attacking the fleeing ships, but the JSDF navy and air force defended the ships with suicidal assaults and kamikaze attacks. Although the Japanese fought valiantly hundreds of ships were still sunk and more then 500,000 civilians drowned in Tokyo Bay. The last evacuation ship the “Maria Ozawa,” crammed with 21,728 people slipped away bound for the United States on September. 24, 2058. With the evacuation ships gone and safely on their way to America the remaining defenders of Tokyo surrendered to the Chinese Hegemony. Prime Minister Ichikawa refused to leave during the mass exodus and instead of being captured by the Chinese he committed Seppuko with his grand fathers service sword from the Second World War. The elderly Emperor Akishino evacuation ship unknown to the PLA was hit by a torpedo and he was lost to the sea. His son Prince Hisahito managed to escape with the evacuation fleet and safely reached the United States more then a month later.

The first Japanese evacuation ships carrying some 36,546,751 Japanese refugees arrived in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, USA [Sol] on December. 06, 2058. Another 2,480,245 Japanese fled to Australia and 768,512 to Peru. In Hawaii the Japanese were processed by the US government and the vast majority of the “Nehon Nanmin” were resettled in Canadian North America and Alaska. Prime Minister Ichikawa, Emperor Akishino, and the head of the JSDF were killed during the fall of Tokyo and the Japanese refugees were left leaderless. The surviving Japanese were deeply divided into numerous competing factions for control of the “Nehon Nanmin.” The Japanese started to fight amongst themselves and hundreds died in the ensuing violent conflict for power. The ultranationalists, liberals, military, democrats, scientists, socialists and even gangsters all competed for control of the survivors. This internal conflict went on until march 2059 when the first evidence of the PLA Death Camps reached the displaced Japanese in the United States. The source of the evidence was never discovered, but it clearly showed that tens of millions of Japanese had been brutally murdered by the PLA in occupied Japan. The numerous Japanese factions immediately recognized that if they would ever stand a chance of reclaiming their ancestral homeland and avenging the dead they would have to unite under one banner. The factions of the “Nehon Nanmin” couldn't agree on a leader from any of the factions and instead decided to have crown Prince Hisahito lead them. Hisahito was proclaimed the 127th Emperor of Japan and given dictatorial power over the “Nehon Nanmin,” much to the dismal of the United States of America. The United States initially refused to acknowledge the agreement amongst the Japanese, but the US soon lost interest because it was embroiled in internal strife of its own. The US was hammered by constant Chinese funded anti-war protests which often turned violent and destructive. The “Nehon Nanmin” in the cold desolate Canadian wilderness began to build new factories and started to manufacture as many Akatsuki Butai or Dawn Units as resources allowed. These Akatsuki Butai were Japans advanced mechanized war machines helped balance the fact that the Japanese had a shortage of men of fighting age due to an elderly population and that many of the young men died defending Japan. Under the leadership of Emperor Hisahito the Japanese become a modern Spartan society completely geared for war. The rest of 2059 up until the Hegemony invasion of North America (summer 2060) the Japanese were building war machines and drilling the survivors into soldiers.

On June.30, 2060 the Chinese launched Operation Dragon's Fire, the nuclear strike and invasion of North America, and the Japanese quickly mobilized to assist the Americans. The Free Japanese Army (FJA) at the time had the only war machines capable of inflicted harm on the ultramodern Chinese machines and weapon systems. The FJA bitterly fought the Hegemony invasion force in Alaska and the Canadian Rocky Mountains, but like the Americans and Mexicans further south were forced to retreat. By the middle of 2061 the Hegemony invasion force was stopped along the Mississippi River Defensive Line and a long war of attrition began. From 2061 to 2064 the FJA became the heavy support of the Allies in North America and would also focus on engaging the Hegemony in the more expansive and fluid battleground that was the Canadian Wilderness. In 2064 the Allies launched Operation Angel Fire, the retaking of Hegemony occupied North America, and the FJA took heavy casualties assisting the Allies push the Hegemony to the Pacific Ocean. By April 2065 North America was liberated from the Hegemony.

The Allies then began to push for the liberation of Europe and the Japanese assisted, but only with limited assets. The Japanese spent the next ten years focused almost exclusively on attacking the Chinese in the Pacific and South America. The FJA assisted the Australians in pushing the Chinese out of Northern Australia in 2073. In late 2075 the Allies were making their bloody push into the areas bordering mainland China and invaded Japan. The Chinese greeted the invasion with fierce resistance, but the Allies still retook first Kyushu then the rest of Japan island by island. The Japanese found that Japan was now a desolate wasteland that had been completely stripped of its resources and people by the Chinese Hegemony. With Japan now in Allied hands it was used as a springboard by the Allies to liberate Taiwan for the eventual invasion of China itself. In 2076 the Allies launched Operation Scorch Garden, the Allied invasion of China, and the FJA suffered terrible casualties helping secure a beachhead in both southern China and the Korean peninsula. The FJA and the other Allies pushed through bitter Chinese resistance and first captured Shantou (2076) then went on to capture Seoul (2076), Pyongyang (2076), Harbin (2076), Beijing (2076), Hong Kong (2076), Shanghai (2077), and hundreds of other Chinese cities. The Allies approached the Chinese city of Xi'an in central China and the Chinese launched a desperate counter attack that killed millions of Allied soldiers. The Allies were exhausted by the war and reluctant to lose more men conquering the rest of China decided to approach the Chinese with an Armistice that would end the war. A few nations pressed for the continuation of the war and the extermination of the Chinese people, most notably Japan and Korea, but the majority of the Allies wanted an end to the war. The terms to the armistice were reasonable to the Chinese and so the Treaty of Jerusalem was signed and the Third Human Civil War ended twenty-two years after it began. The Japanese people shortly after the Third War relocated back to Japan and began to rebuild their decimated homeland. The Japanese cremated their millions of war dead and placed them in a newly rebuilt Yasukuni Shrine. The soldiers of Japan are the only war dead not buried in the Third Human Civil War Memorial Cemetery in the Greenland Temperate Zone, Earth [Sol].

*Note: After the Third Human Civil War it was discovered that agents of the People's Republic of China had planted the car bomb that killed the Chinese ambassadors in front of the National Diet Building in Tokyo. This was done to give China a casus belli to declare war on Japan and invade.

Nehon Nanmin – Japanese for “Japanese Refugee.” The unofficial name the Japanese gave to themselves after the mass exodus out of Japan.
